Abstract

|
The anterior zonular insertions of 44 normal suspended lenses of Korean cadaver eyes which got from eye bank were studied with respect to age(26 to 89). Following removal of the corneoscleral button, Gomori¢¥s 1% hematoxylin chromalum solution was
instilled into the anterior chamber in order to stain the zonular structures. We photographed the prepared eye model using camera (Contax(r), RTS motor drive, Japan) attached to the oprating microscope(Zeiss(r), OPMI 6-CFC, West Germany) and also
the size of central zonule-free area was measured by Image Analysis Sytem(Kontron(r), West Germany).
@ES The results were as follows :
@EN 1. The diameter of zonule-free area(Mean¡¾SD) in each group was 8.2¡¾0.12 mm(Group¥°, n=6), 7.5¡¾0.28 mm(Group¥±, n=14), 6.8¡¾0.37 mm(Group¥², n=24) and there were statistically significant differences between Group¥° $ ¥±and Group¥± $
¥²(P<0.01) 2. The diameter of zonule-free area was decreased with age and showed the linear regression relationship(r=-0.948, P<0.01) This resuts represent that the anterior capsulotomy size during the extracapsular cataract extraction must be adjusted according to the patient¢¥s age for the purpose of avoiding the zonular damage.
